It’s an iconic Australian label that has become internationally renowned for delicate luxury and feminine design; from the billowing chiffon dresses to the signature silk pants and mesh-panelled bikinis, anyone who knows the brand ethos can spot it in one glance.
Over the years, has been a go-to for most occasions, from events to the beach and a casual brunch in between, but now we’re pleased to share that the brand branched out into the activewear arena with their second sporty capsule collection exclusively for .
We were lucky enough to chat to Nicky Zimmermann, one half of the label’s sister act, to learn more about its collaboration with and the thoughts behind this beautiful collection.
TrainSrilanka: What inspired your brand’s first foray into a sportier aesthetic?
Nicky: “We had an idea to do a sports capsule last year and spoke to about it. We didn’t know at the time, but they were working on launching NET-A-SPORTER, so the timing was great. This is our second capsule for NET-A-PORTER after the first one was really well received.”
Does it reflect your own healthy/active lifestyle?
“It was more about working on something different and in a space that I thought would be fun. I wish I could say it was all about my daily gym visits!”
The inspiration comes from a boxing aesthetic; was there something in particular that drew you to boxing for these designs?
“We found some vintage boxing trunks at the Portobello Markets which had this great silhouette – high-waisted shape, clinched in at the waist and really short in length. We were thinking about a girl who’d raided an old boxing gym and started looking at old lace-up boxing glove, and garments inspired by boxing robes.”
How important was the functionality of this range when considering the design for each piece?
“We’re probably a bit more focussed on fashion over function, but the pieces intentionally cross between traditional sports and leisurewear.”
How does the essence of the Zimmermann brand still shine through?
“There’s still a feeling of femininity and fun to the collection – it’s something we think our girl would wear on the weekend.”
What is it like to design an exclusive range for NET-A-SPORTER?
“NET-A-PORTER are a great partner to collaborate with – everyone has a very clear fashion vision which really makes it a fun project to work on.”
Do you have a favourite piece in the range?
“I love the white knot tank one piece and the Whip funnel neck bomber.”
